Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Mooltan, Goojerat (W. Batchelo[r], 1st Bn. 60th R. Rifles) rim holed at 6 o’clock, fitted with cast replacement suspension and clasps, the second loose on ribbon £150-170

William Batchelor joined the 40th Foot on 3 October 1843 and volunteered to the 60th Foot on 30 June 1844. He transferred to the 31st Lancashire Volunteers in December 1861 and was discharged at Dublin on 6 February 1865, in the rank of Sergeant. He was then in possession of the Punjab medal and 2 clasps, and the Indian Mutiny medal with clasp for Delhi. He was severely wounded in the right thigh by a matchlock ball on 13 February 1850, when engaged against the Affridi Tribes at Kohat, and should subsequently have received the I.G.S. with clasp North West Frontier.
