Three: Chief Yeoman of the Signals R. Woollcott, Royal Navy

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89
, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (Yeo. Sig., H.M.S. Alexandra); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Chf. Yeo. Signals, H.M.S. Hibernia), impressed naming, surname spelt ‘Woolcott’; Khedive’s Star 1882, the first with slightly bent suspension post, contact marks and edge bruising, generally about very fine or better (3) £200-250

Robert Woolcott was born in Stepney, London in July 1856 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in October 1872. Subsequently present in the Egypt operations of 1882, as a Yeoman of Signals in H.M.S. Alexandra, including the bombardment of Alexandria, he was pensioned ashore in July 1899; his service papers do not reveal the date of award of his L.S. & G.C. Medal, but it is entirely as issued.
