Distinguished Conduct Medal Medal Roll

Overview

The Distinguished Conduct Medal was authorised in 1854, at the start of the Crimea War, as a gallantry award for Non-Commissioned Officers and Private Soldiers, and for most of its existence was the second highest gallantry award that such recipients could receive, after the Victoria Cross. Bars are awarded for second and subsequent awards. Distinguished Conduct Medals were awarded for virtually all the major and minor conflicts of the latter 19th Century; the vast majority were for either the Crimea War 1854-56 (827 awards) or the Second Boer War 1899–1902 (2,097 awards).

Our online roll lists all 3,615 recipients of the Medal from its institution up until the start of the Great War.
