Overview

The Cape of Good Hope General Service Medal 1880–97 was authorised and issued in 1900 to all surviving veterans engaged in the campaigns in Transkei, September 1880 to May 1881; Basutoland, September 1880 to April 1881; and Bechuanaland, December 1896 to July 1897. British units were not present in these campaigns, and almost all the medals issued were awarded to members of various local units. The medal was almost always awarded with one or more of the 3 clasps authorised, for Transkei, Basutoland, and Bechuanaland, and 23 medals were issued with all three clasps.
