William Bruce Gardner Hopkins joined the Royal Air Force as a Cadet Pilot in April 1952. He advanced to Flying Officer in July 1954, and to Flight Lieutenant in January 1958. He was promoted Squadron Leader in July 1964, Wing Commander in January 1972, and Group Captain in January 1979.
