Provenance: Bt T. Millett January 2004.

This is a ticket for a masquerade ball, given on the opening day, Thursday 31 May, of the 1792 season. This event is recorded in the manuscript ‘Vauxhall Lists’ as ‘A Masquerade, Admittance £1. 1s. 0d.’ A similar ticket, no.3133, is in the British Museum (1984,0225.33). The wax seal at lower left was removed from these tickets to prevent them from being re-used. Occasionally, such as here, the tickets were cut preparatory for admission by different entrance doors
