DNW 157, 1319-20). Pierced for suspension, very fine and toned, very rare £300-£400

Lt-General Hugh Percy, née Smithson, 2nd Duke of Northumberland (1742-1817), Alnwick Castle, acceded to the title 1786, and in later life was one of the richest men in England; Capt, 85th Regt of Foot, 1759, present at the battles of Bergen and Minden; St John’s College, Cambridge, 1760-3; Whig MP for Westminster, 1763-76; ADC to George III, 1764; Col, 5th Regt of Foot (Northumberland Fusiliers), 1768-84, serving in the American War of Independence, 1774-7, leading the relief column at the battle of Lexington and Concord and present at the battle of Long Island and the storming of Fort Washington before resigning his commission; Capt and Col of the 2nd Troop, Grenadier Guards, 1784-8; Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland 1786-98 and 1802-17; Col of the Royal Horse Guards, 1806-13
