Thomas Friend was born at Peasmarch, Sussex, and enlisted on 1 June 1803, aged 22, for unlimited service. He was discharged on 30 April 1818, to pension, as a result of a reduction in the regiment and completion of his second period of service. His correct name was Friend and not FREIND as shown on his medal.
