Leonard J. Hughes attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment and served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 8 August 1915. Advanced Sergeant, he was demobilised on 7 March 1919. He subsequently served as a Special Constable with the West Sussex Constabulary during the Second World War, based at Littlehampton.

Edwin G. E. Hall attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment at Chichester on 18 November 1910, and served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 9 August 1915. He was hospitalised the following month with dysentery, and returned to England on 17 December 1915, taking his discharge on 28 January 1916. He subsequently re-enlisted in the Royal Artillery, and served with them for the remainder of the Great War.

Harold J. Wrackford was born in East Dean, Sussex, in 1894, and attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment. He served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 8 August 1915, and was discharged due to wounds/sickness on 1 September 1916, being awarded the Silver War Badge.

Henry P. Lines attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment and served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War. Sold with a photographic image of the recipient.

Ernest Knowles was born in Washington, Sussex, and attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment at Worthing, Sussex. He served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 8 August 1915, and died of wounds in Egypt on 5 November 1917. He is commemorated in Beersheba War Cemetery, Israel.
