The Army L.S. & G.C. awarded to Sergeant-Major Thomas Walton, Coldstream Guards, later a Yeoman of the Guard

Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 2nd issue, large letter reverse (Thos. Walton. Sergeant Major 3rd Bn. Gr. Gds. Discharged 1847) engraved naming, fitted with steel clip and later ring suspension, nearly very fine £140-£180

Thomas Walton was born in the Parish of Eccles, Lancashire, and attested for the Grenadier Guards at New Bayley, Manchester on 2 October 1817, aged 16, a weaver by trade. Apart from one year 4 months service in Portugal, he served the remainder in London and Windsor. He was promoted Corporal in February 1821, Sergeant in January 1825, Sergeant-Major in March 1842, and was discharged in London on 12 January 1847 being then in possession for ‘good conduct and length of service’. He was appointed to the Guard shortly afterwards that same year and was present at the wedding of the Prince of Wales on 18 March 1863. He died at Croydon on 7 September 1869.
