David John Kenvin was born in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire in 1884. He enlisted in the South Wales Borderers in 1906, and the 1911 census shows him serving as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers and stationed in South Africa.

He served during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 August 1914, and was discharged on 12 June 1915 due to being no longer physically fit for war service. He died in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan in 1953.
