Hebrew Phyall was born in the Parish of Boughton Winchelsea, near Maidstone, Kent, and attested for the 1/23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Chatham on 19 April 1858. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion on 22 May 1858, and served throughout in the rank of Private. He was discharged on 8 July 1879, being then in possession of ‘five Good Conduct badges, the Good Conduct Medal and the Ashantee Medal with clasp for Coomassie.’ He had been awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal with £5 Gratuity on 1 January 1877. Sold with copied discharge papers.
