Great Britain, Royal Aeronautical Society, British Gold Medal for Aeronautics, a silver-gilt medal by A.G. Wyon, bust of Sir George Cayley facing three-quarters left, rev. bird in flight, hot air balloon above, edge named (Mr. S.D. Davies, for his Outstanding Practical Work in the Design & Development of Delta Aircraft), 51mm. Edge bruise at top and other minor marks, otherwise good very fine £300-£400

Stuart Duncan Davies, CBE (1906-95) was the chief designer of the Avro 707, the prototype of the Vulcan bomber. He served as President of the Royal Aeronautical Society from 1971-2 and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Society in 1974 “in recognition of his services to aviation over many years and his services to the Royal Aeronautical Society”. He was awarded this medal in 1958
