Pair: Lance-Sergeant William Dalgleish, 1st Royal Highlanders

William Dalgleish was born at Morningside, Edinburgh in 1854. He first enlisted into the 43rd Foot on 11 March 1871, and was discharged at his own request on 30 September 1873. He re-enlisted into the 57th Brigade at Edinburgh on 17 July 1876, was posted to the 79th Foot in August 1876, and transferred to the 42nd Foot on 26 July 1882. He was appointed Lance-Sergeant on 2 May 1882 but was tried and reduced to Private on 25 September 1882. He had a fairly checkered career thereafter but was finally discharged in the rank of Sergeant on 22 October 1895.
