5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) Dragoon Guards Other Ranks 1871 Pattern Helmet Plate, Sabretache Badge, Horse Furniture. The helmet plate of standard format, the white metal elongated star mounted with a brass Garter Proper enclosing a white metal 5’ on a black patent leather ground, an officer’s undress sabretache badge in gilt brass and silver, being an eight pointed star six of the principal rays with battle honours mounted with a QVC crowned strap, ‘Vestigia Nulla Retrorsum’ in the centre the White Horse between ‘V’ ‘DG”, four loop fasteners, (c1840-1856), a similar item in heavy die-stamped brass but with the bottom star point now inscribed ‘Inkerman’, one screw post fastener and evidence of an earlier top mount, a much plainer post 1902 issue but without any battle honours, one screw post fastener, a heavy gauge cast brass bit-boss, a Guelphic crown over a strap ‘Vestigia Nulla Retrorsum’ in the centre ‘5/DG’, the two fastening posts reduced, good overall condition (5) £100-160
