James Edward Clark was killed in action on 18 February 1941, while serving as 2nd Engineer Officer in the tanker Edwy R. Brown, which vessel was torpedoed and sunk with all hands by the U-103, about 400 miles west of the Faroes - U-103 was commanded by Victor Schutze, who shortly afterwards was awarded Oak Leaves to his earlier Knight’s Cross; the above described forwarding box is addressed to the recipient’s widow, Mrs. M. S. Clark, 3 Warwick Road, South Shields.
