John Robert Harrison Stainsby, who was born in Leith, Edinburgh, in April 1896, was killed in action on the night of 26-27 October 1916, when his ship H.M. Drifter Datum was sunk by enemy destroyers in the Dover Straits. The son of John Robert and Mary Gordon Stainsby of 8 George Street, Leith, he has no known gave and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial; sold with copied service papers.
