Wireman 2nd Class John Stanley Orchard was killed in action on 31 May 1916, when his ship the battle cruiser Queen Mary blew up and sank at Jutland. The son of Thomas Orchard of The Launceston Arms Hotel, Launceston, Cornwall, he was 19 years of age, had no known grave and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
