James Simpson was born in Omagh, County Tyrone, and attested for the 83rd Foot at Dungannon, in December 1842. He advanced to Sergeant in December 1851, and Colour-Sergeant in March 1859. He was discharged 28 June 1864, having served 21 years and 24 days with the Colours. He died in October 1897.
