Matthew Osland was born in Blaina, Monmouthshire and enlisted at Brecon. Serving as Private 32156 in the 10th Battalion South Wales Borderers, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 19 October 1918, aged 20 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial. He was the son of John and Mirable Osland, of 44 Bournville Road, Blaina, Monmouthshire.
