Stanley Evans was born in Henllys, Monmouthshire and enlisted at Newport. Serving in the 2nd Battalion South Wales Borderers, he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 26 November 1915. As a Lance-Corporal in the 2nd Battalion he was killed in action on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was buried in the Hawthorn Ridge Cemetery No. 2, Auchonvillers, Somme.
