Herbert Claude Taylor was born in Pyker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and enlisted at Pretoria. Serving with the 2nd Battalion South Wales Borderers, he landed at lan Shan Bay, 23 September 1914, for operations against the German territory of Tsingtao in China. With the battalion he returned to England, via Hong Kong, in January 1915. On 25 April 1915 his battalion landed at Cape Helles, Gallipoli. Private Taylor was killed in action at the Gully Ravine, Gallipoli, on 6 July 1915, aged 20 years. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. He was the son of Alice Maud Taylor, of Mayfair Chambers, 1 Balderton Street, Grosvenor Square, London, and the late Herbert Richard Taylor. With copied research.
