Coins, James Murray, Proof Penny, 1758, in silver, normal thistle, edge herring-bone right, 11.71g/2h (Prid. 15A; S 7411b; KM. 7a; cf. Caine 2724 [= Baldwin 86, 29]). Bright from prior cleaning and an obverse edge nick at 2 o’clock, otherwise extremely fine, very rare £1,000-1,500

Provenance: W. Cunningham Collection, Glendining Auction, 31 January-2 February 1951, lot 651; bt 1970.

The latest research would suggest that these silver strikings were coined
after the regular copper issue, as the dies exhibit more wear. Cunningham owned six of these specimens, of which this example was, ostensibly, the best
