William Creagh O’Brien originally entered the army as an Ensign in the 40th Foot on 19 November 1841, and served with that regiment at the battle of Maharajpoor where he was wounded. He transferred in June 1844 as a Lieutenant to the 73rd Foot, becoming Captain in December 1852, and served with the 73rd in the Indian Mutiny 1857-58. He was advanced to Major, by purchase, in June 1862, and to Lieutenant-Colonel in April 1866 when he was placed on the Retired List. Sold with research.
