Joseph Francis Henley was born in Liverpool. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Royal Artillery at Liverpool on 20 January 1892, aged 18 years, 9 months. After service at Home he was transferred to the Army Reserve in January 1899. Recalled in October, he was posted to South Africa where he served with the 37th Battery R.F.A., November 1899-September 1902. He was discharged in January 1904. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
