Ernest Sidney Franklin was born in Athlone. A Cook by occupation, he attested for the Royal Artillery at London on 21 January 1895, aged 18 years, 4 months. Served in the 28th battery R.F.A. in South Africa, December 1899-January 1903. Transferred to the Army Reserve in January 1903 and discharged on 8 January 1907. With copied service papers and roll extracts. With copied m.i.c. showing a Driver Ernest S. Franklin of the Lahore Reserve Park A.S.C. serving in France from 22 September 1914.
