Charles Smith Secker was born in Dereham, Norfolk. A Groom by occupation, he attested for the Royal Artillery at London on 20 January 1896, aged 20 years, 8 months. Posted to the R.H.A., he served in ‘H’ Battery in India, October 1897-January 1900 and in ‘A’ Battery in South Africa, January-November 1900. Transferred to the Army Reserve in January 1908. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
