Hugh Gordon Richardson was born in Calcutta in 1869, son of Major-General Joseph Fletcher Richardson, Indian Army. He was educated at Christ School, Bedford. On leaving school Richardson joined the Indian Police. In 1891 he married Edith Helen Quin at Allahabad. In 1905 he was serving as a Superintendent 4th Grade with the police at Agra and Oudh. Awarded the K.P.M. in the New Years Honours of 1921 when serving as Deputy Inspector-General of the United Provinces Police. Retiring c.1924, he died on 1 August 1947 at Crowborough, West Sussex.
