William Walter Lucas was born in St. Marylebone, London. A Bus Driver by occupation, he attested for short service in the Imperial Yeomanry at Cheltenham on 19 February 1901, aged 25 years. Posted to the 2nd (Wiltshire) Company 1st Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, he served in South Africa, 14 March-3 July 1901. He was discharged from the 1st Provisional Battalion, being found medically unfit for further service, on 16 October 1901. With copied service papers.
