George Thorogood was born in Hoxton, London and enlisted at Stratford, London. Serving with the 5th Dragoon Guards he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 18 May 1915. He was killed in action on 10 April 1917, aged 24 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of Alice Thorogood, of 15 Fellows Street, Hackney Road, London, and the late Richard Thorogood.
