Bertie Charles Lertora and Walter Leo Lertora were sons of Francis and Eliza Lertora, of Newtown, Trowbridge.

Bertie Charles Lertora was born in Bradford-on-Avon. A Driller by occupation and a member of the 1st Wiltshire Rfle Volunteer Corps, he attested for short service in the Wiltshire Regiment at Trowbridge on 13 January 1900, aged 22 years. He served in South Africa, February-July 1900 and was discharged at his own request on 9 November 1900. He then went on to serve in the South African Constabulary. During the Great War he served as a Serjeant in the 1/4th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, serving in India and Afghanistan. Latterly he was the licensee of ‘The Rising Sun’ in Newtown. He died at his home on 5 July 1946.

Walter Leo Lertora was born and lived in Trowbridge and enlisted at Bath. Serving with the 3rd Dragoon Guards, he was killed in action at Ypres on 13 November 1914. His name is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial; the Trinity Church War Memorial, Trowbridge and the Trowbridge Town War Memorial.
