Private William Besant, 2nd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 20 July 1915. He died of wounds on 13 October 1915 and was buried in the Ecclesmachan Cemetery, West Lothian, Scotland. He was the son of Mrs M. E. Besant of Bishops Cannings, Devizes, Wiltshire. With copied m.i.c. and modern photographs of the war memorial at Bishop Cannings Church.
