Arthur William Dawson was born c.1883, the son of Arthur William Dawson, Organist and Choir Master of St. Pauls, Jarrow. Educated at Bede College and Hatfield College, Durham, he gained a B.A. and M.A. Commissioned a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant, 11th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, 12 September 1914; Temporary Lieutenant, 11 November 1914 and Temporary Captain 17 May 1915. He served in France/Flanders from 20 July 1915 to 2 September 1916 and 15 December 1916 to 11 September 1917, being wounded in September 1916 and again on 24 August 1917, on the latter date receiving a gun shot wound to the left arm. After recovering, Dawson was transferred to the 84th Battalion Training Reserve, 9 January 1918 - January 1919, with the rank of Acting Major from July 1918. He was demobilised in January 1919. Post war he was employed as a schoolmaster at the Central School, Jarrow and served as an officer in the Special Constabulary. Sold with copied research.
