James Nash was born in Cowley St. John, Oxford and enlisted in the Rifle Brigade in March 1900, aged 18 years. Posted to the 4th Battalion in Dublin, he was embarked for South Africa in December 1901, where he qualified for the above described Medal & clasps - which awards were presented to his unit by General F.
