Pair: Private J. D. Watson, 21st Lancers, who rode in ‘B’ Squadron in the charge at Omdurman

Queen’s Sudan 1896-98,
an unnamed tailor’s copy; Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, 2 clasps, The Atbara, Khartoum (2801 Pte., 21st Lcrs.), the first polished, fine, the last with edge nicks, good very fine (2) £400-500

Watson rode in ‘B’ Squadron in the charge at Omdurman but was not present in The Atbara operations.

According to the regimental journal, the
Vedette, he was a competent cricketer, being ‘a painstaking and steady bat, hitting well and freely when set ... a safe field.’ He onetime held the rank of Lance-Sergeant, but was reduced to Private, finally regaining Lance-Corporal’s stripes.
