Warwick Arthur Green served aboard H.M.S. Wild Swan in the East Indies 1877-81, and was present at the combined English and Portuguese expeditions against the Makuas in Conducia Bay in 1880 (Mentioned in despatches). He was subsequently Assistant Paymaster in charge of H.M.S. Albacore during the operations in the Eastern Soudan, at Suakin, 1884-85. Green rose to the rank of Paymaster-in-Chief, was a qualified interpreter in Hindustani, and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
