43rd Foot (Monmouth Light Infantry), silver, circular medal with raised rim and integral suspension ring, 54 mm, obv. crowned bugle horn with ‘43’ between the cords, ‘Monmouth Light Infantry’ around; rev. inscribed ‘Presented to James Webb, Sergt., Brevet Major Tylden’s Coy., 1st Batt. 43rd L.I. A reward for his Soldierly Merit & Gallant Conduct while serving in the Peninsula with the Light Division 1814’, very fine and rare £400-500

James Webb was born in the Parish of Hampnell, Norfolk, and attested for the 43rd Light Infantry at Yarmouth on 19 August 1811, aged 22 years. He served in the ‘Peninsula and France from July 1812 to June 1814 - New Orleans - Army of Occupation from June 1815 to October 1818 - Portugal from Jany. 1827 to March 1828 - Gibraltar seven years.’ He was dicharged on 6 June 1832 and intended to reside in Hampnell.
