Samuel David Grant was born in Ryde, Isle of Wight on 6 September 1869 and enlisted into the Royal Navy on 10 March 1885 as a Boy 2nd Class on the Sick Berth Staff. Appointed Sick Berth Steward in 1897, he attained the rank of Chief Sick Berth Steward in 1904. He was discharged with a pension in 1909 but recalled for war service during 1914-19. Sold with copied service papers.
