Five: Regimental Sergeant-Major W. Robinson, Cameron Highlanders - latterly a Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London

W. Robinson, Cam’n....); Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (R.S. Mjr. W. Robinson, Cameron Highrs.); Khedive’s Star, 1884-6, unnamed, edge bruising and contact marks, first three with obverses very badly worn through polishing; last two nearly very fine (5) £1000-1200

William Augustus Robinson was born in Shankhill, Belfast on 8 November 1858. Employed as a Carpenter, living at 3 Amelia Street, Belfast, he attested for the 2nd Battalion Somerset Light Infantry on 8 November 1876. He served in Malta, August 1877-February 1878; India, March 1878-November 1884; Egypt, December 1884-March 1887; Malta, March 1887-February 1892 and August 1892-July 1894; Gibraltar, August 1894-February 1895. Appointed Lance-Corporal in December 1879; Corporal in November 1881; Sergeant in August 1885; Colour Segeant in February 1890; Sergeant Instructor in Musketry in April 1892 and Sergeant-Major in February 1897. Robinson retired on a pension on 19 September 1902 but on 5 July 1902 he was appointed a Yeoman Warder. He was awarded the M.S.M. without annuity per Army Order 108 of 1923. Sergeant-Major Robinson died on 21 April 1926.

A. Stevenson, G.C.B. Constable of the Tower and Lieutenant-General B. Milman, Major at the Tower. Together with an original portrait photograph and a quantity of copied research.
