Three: Chief Engine Room Artificer J. Morgan, Royal Navy

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (E.R. Artfr., H.M.S. “Falcon”); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (John Morgan, Chf. Eng. Rm. Artfr., H.M.S. Griffon) impressed naming; Khedive’s Star, 1882, unnamed, good very fine (3) £220-260

John Morgan was born in Llanelly, Carmarthenshire on 20 March 1846. He entered the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer on 13 June 1877 and was confirmed in that rank in April 1880. Served on Falcon, September 1881-February 1885, during which time he saw service in the Egypt War of 1882, and on the Griffon, March 1887-September 1890, being promoted to Chief Engine Room Artificer in June 1888 and awarded the Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. in March 1889. Pensioned ashore on 30 July 1897.
