Large paper 1st edn, London, John Russell Smith, 1849. 8vo, dark green three-quarter morocco, back heavily gilt. Title printed in black only, prelims in right order, 8 plates of tokens, viii, viii (lacking i-iv as usual), 257pp, 2pp advertisements. Annotated throughout and extra-illustrated with manuscript notes and contemporary newspaper cuttings tipped in. J.H. Burn’s copy with his signature, letter from Benjamin Nightingale to Robert Boyne (father of William) inviting Boyne to be a subscriber and describing Akerman’s plans for the book and Akerman’s financial status tipped in. No list of subscribers was published. Very rare (Manville 362). £400-500
