Great Britain, Institution of Civil Engineers, Telford Medal, 1828, a silver-gilt award after W. Wyon, similar, edge named (Telford Premium 1881, Theophilus Seyrig, M. Inst. C.E.), 58mm (BHM 1328; E 1206; Holland p.43). Test mark in reverse field, otherwise brilliant and practically as struck, attractively toned; in official blue Wyon velvet-lined case of issue

Theophilus Seyrig, a Parisian bridge engineer employed by the Belgian company Société de Willebroeck, designed the D. Luis I bridge in Oporto (inaugurated 1886). He was awarded this medal for his paper ‘Different Modes of Erecting Iron Bridges’ read to an ordinary meeting of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1881
