Leslie Richardson was born on 5 October 1885. A Journalist by occupation, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 September 1914 as a Civilian Motor Driver. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Service Corps on 1 March 1915, he was advanced to Lieutenant in August 1915 and to Captain in April 1917. Invalided from France in August 1919 suffering from pneumonia.
