Charles George Brown was born in Melbourne, Australia. A Shoemaker by occupation, he attested for the 67th Regiment at Dublin on 12 March 1873, aged 14 years, 1 month. With the regiment he served in the East Indies, January 1877-February 1888. Attaining the rank of Colour Sergeant in July 1891, he was discharged on 12 May 1894. With copied service papers.
