M.C. London Gazette 20 October 1916. ‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. During an attack he passed backwards and forwards among the waves, advancing under heavy shell and rifle fire. Finally, with a private, he brought in an Officer who was wounded and unable to move.’

Charles William Sewell, appointed Lieutenant, 13th (Reserve) Battalion Sherwood Foresters, 18 May 1915; appointed to 15th (Bantams) Battalion on 19 August 1916. Served with the 15th until July 1917. Was later a Captain and Assistant Superintendent of Physical Training in May 1918. With some copied research.
