Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, complete with top bar, slight enamel damage to reverse wreath; 1914-15 Star (Major); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (Major); Territorial Decoration, G.V.R., unnamed, complete with top bar, mounted court style for wear, in Spink, London leather case, good very fine (5) £1500-1800

Robert James Wordsworth was born in 1888, son of Robert Walter Wordsworth, of Ollerton, Whitemoor, Nottinghamshire. At the time of the 1901 Census, his father was Land Agent to Earl Manvers. Robert James Wordsworth was educated at Winchester School. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Volunteer Battalion Sherwood Foresters on 12 May 1906. He was advanced to Lieutenant in the 4th Volunteer Battalion and in the 8th Battalion in June 1907. In the 1/8th Battalion he was promoted to Captain in May 1910; and Temporary Major in February 1915. Wordsworth was Staff Captain and then Major, North Midland Division and Major in the 8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters and was appointed A.Q.M.G. in April 1918. For his wartime services he was mentioned in despatches and awarded the D.S.O. In 1923 he was transferred to the T.A. Reserve of Officers. During May 1924 Major Wordsworth joined the 8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters from the reserve and took up duties as Brigade Transport Officer. He was presented with his T.D. in 1925. Major Wordsworth died in 1969, his death being registered at Midhurst, Sussex. With copied research including a copied photograph of the recipient.
