Walter George Pridmore was born in London on 23 September 1864. He was educated at Sir Roger Cholmeley’s School, Highgate and studied surgery at Durham University and at the Middlesex Hospital, gaining the M.R.C.S. in 1886 and M.B., and C.M. in 1887. A keen sportsman, he played rugby for both the hospital and university. After employment at the Middlesex Hospital he entered the Indian Medical Service in July 1891 as a Surgeon. He served with the Tashon Column in the Burma expedition of 1892 but did not receive a medal. He was promoted to Major in July 1903 and Lieutenant-Colonel in July 1911 and was Opthalmic Sugeon in Rangoon General Hospital, 1910-14. During the Great War he served with No.5 Indian General Hospital with the Egypt Expeditionary Force, November 1914-September 1918 and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 21 January 1916) and awarded the C.M.G. (1915). Promoted to Colonel in July 1918, he served in the Malabar expedition, 1921-22 and retired from the service on 1 November 1923. In October 1921 he was appointed King’s Honorary Surgeon. Colonel Pridmore died on 24 March 1943. Sold with copied research.
