Edward Bertram Marsh was born in Liverpool on 3 March 1890. He qualified as a M.B. and Ch.B. at Liverpool University, 1913 and M.R.C.P., London, 1925 at Guy’s and Liverpool. He entered the R.A.M.C. as a Lieutenant in September 1914 and was promoted to Captain in April 1915 and served as an Acting Major, April 1918-April 1919 and December 1919-November 1920. He served with the B.E.F. in France, 1914-19, and was twice mentioned in despatches and awarded the M.C. After the War he served in India, 1919-23. Promoted to Major in September 1926, he was Medical Specialist at Aldershot Command, 1926-27, then served at Shanghai, 1927. Then in India he was Medical Specialist at the British Military Hospital, Quetta and Baluchistan District, 1927-31. Returning home to England, he was then employed at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, 1932-34, after which he was posted to Egypt and the Citadel Hospital, Cairo, 1934-39. In July 1937 he received the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel, being promoted to that rank in September the same year. Marsh was then appointed C.O. of the Military Hospital, Devonport, January-March 1940, and then with the rank of Acting Colonel was appointed C.O. of 34 General Hospital, March-May 1940 and C.O. of the Military Hospital, Shenley, 1940-41 and 1942. Appointed Temporary Colonel from September 1940, he was promoted to that rank in August 1943. Marsh was then appointed D.D.M.S. F.H.Q. Gibraltar, 1942-44 and C.O. of the Military Hospital, Drymen, 1944. With the rank of Acting Major-General, from May 1946 and Temporary Major-General, from May 1947, he was Commandant and Director of Studies at the Royal Army Medical College, 1946-48. He was placed on Retired Pay with the honorary rank of Major-General on 10 March 1949. Sold with some copied research.
