Gerard Beatty Irvine was born on 15 August 1863. Attending the Carmichael School, Dublin, he later qualified as a L.R.C.S.I. and L.K.Q.C.P. in 1885. Joining the Indian Medical Service as a Surgeon in 1887, he was promoted to Major in March 1899 and Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1907 and saw active service on the N.W. Frontier of India and in Somaliland. During the Great War he served with the I.M.S. in Mesopotamia for which he was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 5 April 1916, 10 May 1916, 19 October 1916, 15 August 1917) and awarded the C.B. (1916). Sold with some copied research.
