Dept.); Waterloo 1815, 2 unofficial engraved clasps, Martinique, Guadaloupe (Edward Simpson Esq., Surgeon Royal Artillery), with original steel clip and ring suspension; Waterloo 1815 (Edward Simpson, Surgeon, Royal Artillery), with replacement clip and ring suspension, each with contemporary silver buckle on ribbon, minor contact marks, and some edge bruising, generally good very fine (3) £5000-6000

Edward Simpson was appointed a Supernumary Assistant Surgeon on 25 April 1805 and an Assistant Surgeon in the Ordnance Medical Department in August 1806. He served in the siege and capture of Pigeon Island, siege and capture of Fort Bourbon and capture of Martinique in 1809 and the capture of Guadaloupe and dependencies in 1810. Advanced to Surgeon in August 1813, he was present at the two attacks on Merxem, the bombardment of Antwerp and the attack on Bergen-op-Zoom in 1814. He served throughout the Campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo and the subsequent capture of Paris. Simpson was placed on Half Pay in 1822, returned to Full Pay in March 1823, was appointed Senior Surgeon in January 1841 and retired on Full Pay in January 1844. He died at Jessfield on 23 September 1854. Sold with original Commission Document appointing Simpson to be Surgeon in the Ordnance Medical Department, dated 15 March 1823 and bearing the signature, ‘Wellington’.
